There is some etched decoration on the lip above the catch, otherwise the silver is unadorned. The interior has a gold wash finish.Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele is the grand opera house of Palermo, Sicily. At 7730 sqm it is the largest opera house in Italy and 4th largest in Europe. The building was designed by Giovan Battista Filippo Basile who took inspiration from Greek temples at Selinunte and Agrigento for his Neoclassical design style. It opened in 1897 with a performance of Verdi’s Aida. The climax of The Godfather Part 3 takes place in the auditorium and on the front steps. MADE of. 800 silver, presumably in Italy: circa 1900.MARKINGS: “800” hallmark inside cover, as shown.MEASURES 3″ x 2″ x 5/8″Very Good antique condition. No chips, scrapes, scratches or other damage to enamel. The lip above the catch is worn from handling and the back bottom corners are dinged (see picts. 4 and 5).
