A rare gold foil photogravure (print) of Portrait of Selim II “The Sot” (1566-1574) by Reis Haydar called Nigari.” The … more A rare gold foil photogravure (print) of Portrait of Selim II “The Sot” (1566-1574) by Reis Haydar called Nigari.” The gorgeously attired sultan is shown shooting arrows handed to him by a page behind him. The target is held up by a retainer in the right (not shown) part of the larger composition. Ottoman, third quarter of the 16th century. 22.5″H x 18.5″W. Topkapu Palace Museum, Istanbul. The photogravure comes from a rare First Limited and Only Edition art folio published in Switzerland in the 1940s. Gold foil overlay. Very detailed. Printed on one side. Hand tipped-in on a sheet of heavy paper. Numbered at the lower right corner: 6. Excellent condition – never framed.
