Antique 16.3/4”x 13 ¼” Blue & White Unmarked Transfer Willow Pattern Platter.This is an early blue and white transfer … more Antique 16.3/4”x 13 ¼” Blue & White Unmarked Transfer Willow Pattern Platter.This is an early blue and white transfer platter with a number 14 imprinted on the back.It is difficult to put a date on this platter. Looking at the imprinted numbers on its back, the factory flaws, the glaze runoff on the back and the transfer pattern flaw in the platter’s front border. I would think that it was probably made around 1830’s when potters in England were trying to copy blue willow patterns from Japan. The glaze runoff on the sides of the platter, the small dark blue spots and pattern flaw on the front border are caused by not having the right kiln temperature to bake the glaze. If the kiln is not hot enough (dripping) glaze will run down the sides of the china. In my years of collecting blue willow, I have come across and bought several items with glaze runoff in the back. It does not affect the beauty of the platter.There is some very minor grazing, hardly visible. The potter that made this platter did a wonderful job; it is a beautiful platter is the perfect size to serve a large family for the holidays or decorate your walls.Measurements: Width 16.3/4″Height 13.1/4″ less
